Dog care, simplified

Everything your dog needs, explained without the guesswork.

LoveDogo is a small, independent blog about living well with dogs — feeding, grooming, training and knowing when something is genuinely wrong. Practical instructions you can follow the same day.

Written for real households: limited time, one very good dog, and a lot of conflicting advice online.

How much should you actually feed your dog?

Portion size depends on weight, age and activity — not the scoop on the bag. Learn how to read a label, split meals across the day, and spot early signs of over- or underfeeding.

  • Weigh food instead of using cups for accuracy
  • Treats should stay under 10% of daily calories
  • Switch foods gradually over 7–10 days

The first 30 days with a new puppy

A calm, predictable routine teaches faster than long sessions. Short reward-based drills, consistent cue words and generous rest build a confident dog that listens by choice.

  • Keep sessions to 3–5 minutes, several times a day
  • Reward the behaviour within two seconds
  • Crate rest prevents overtired misbehaviour

Warning signs that need a vet, not a wait

Most dogs hide discomfort well. Knowing your dog's normal breathing, gum colour and appetite makes an abnormal day obvious — and gets you to the clinic before it becomes an emergency.

  • Repeated vomiting or refusing water for 12+ hours
  • Pale gums, laboured breathing or a swollen belly
  • Sudden limping that does not settle within a day

A day of good dog care

Dogs thrive on rhythm more than novelty. Use this as a template and adjust walk lengths to your dog's age and breed.

01

Morning

Fresh water, a 20–30 minute sniffing walk before breakfast, then a quick paw and eye check while your dog is still calm.

02

Midday

Enrichment over exercise: a snuffle mat, a frozen lick toy or a five-minute training refresher keeps the brain busy indoors.

03

Evening

The longer walk, dinner at a consistent time, and a brushing session that doubles as a lump, tick and skin inspection.

04

Weekly

Ears wiped, nails checked, bedding washed, teeth brushed at least three times, and a weight note in your phone.

About LoveDogo

LoveDogo started as a notebook of things we wished someone had told us on day one of dog ownership — how much to feed, why a puppy bites at 8pm, what a healthy gum colour looks like. It became a blog because those notes kept helping friends.

Every guide is written in plain language, checked against current veterinary guidance, and updated when that guidance changes. We are not a clinic and we never pretend to be: our job is to help you ask your vet better questions and handle everyday care with confidence.

We keep the site independent. Advertising and occasional affiliate links pay the hosting bill, and they never decide what we recommend.

Not veterinary advice

LoveDogo publishes general educational information about dog care. It is not a substitute for a diagnosis, treatment plan or prescription from a licensed veterinarian who has examined your animal. Always consult your vet before changing your dog's diet, medication or exercise routine, and seek urgent care if your dog is unwell.
